Join Lauren Booth for an author evening, book signing for her memoir ‘Finding Peace in the Holy Land’.

Lauren Booth, outspoken writer and broadcaster explores faith, family, politics and life’s meaning in this timely and adventurous memoir

Finding Peace in the Holy Land is a spiritual adventure story which begins in the quiet London suburb of Hampstead in the 1970s. Lauren’s father is a famous actor and political militant. Penniless and unable to pay the rent, he tells her that changing the world is the reason for living.

After her early faith is shattered by a mysterious fire, Lauren paddles the shallows of celebrity life, where her political opinions pit her against the views of her brother-in-law, who just happens to be Prime Minister Tony Blair.

This rare and relevant memoir is told with brisk honesty and sharp humour. It is a dramatic life story sweeping from the suburbs of North London to the olive groves of the Holy Land, from handball with Hamas to breaking a deadly siege by land and by sea.

It tracks the singular journey of a one-time party girl and part-time Christian to the quiet, teetotal life of a devout believer in the teachings of the Arabian Prophet.

Wryly written, with her British humour striking throughout, her story shows the evolving relationship between culture and religion, and how to embrace the past whilst praying for a better future.

Lauren Booth has presented radio and TV series for amongst others; BBC Radio London, British Muslim TV, Press TV and the Islam Channel. She publishes articles across a wide platform and continues to tour internationally as a public speaker. Her talks focus on human rights, Islamophobia in the media, Palestinian justice and her own conversion to Islam.

Foundations Of Knowledge (Sabeel Sisters) @ London @ London UK | London | England | United Kingdom

Course Introduction
Islām is a universal message for all nations and all people. It is suitable for all times and places. Its message is applicable today as it was when it was revealed. Mankind today is in need of its mercy and justice just as they did when it first emerged. Islamic tarbiyah represents the methodology by which practical implementation of Islamic Law is realized since Islam is not only concerned with the dimensions of knowledge, understanding and creed: it desires one to put into practice its teachings, and knowledge is the means to correct application. This knowledge is what maps out the guidance for a person. All the prophets brought this guidance, the last of them being our Prophet Muhammad (SAW). So we begin our study and focus with these foundations: tarbiyah, knowledge and learning. The intent is to manifest its fruits upon our hearts and limbs and continue to do so throughout our lives. Indeed, we all know that education is fundamental to the success of any individual, and with so much to learn and so little time, how do we make the right choices? How do we keep motivated and achieve what we have in mind? This course will explore a range of topics from examining how to judge the importance/benefit of a discipline and how to approach it, to contextualising learning in relation to both this life and the Hereafter. By the time you complete this course, you should be able to contextualise much of the thoughts and notions you have regarding your aims and objectives in life and also having gained an indispensable framework with which you continue your learning and experiences.

Separating Families – How Prevent Seeks Removal of Children (CAGE) @ London Tickets
Sep 29 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Separating Families - How Prevent Seeks Removal of Children (CAGE) @ London @ Central London | England | United Kingdom

Join at the launch of our new report: Separating Families – How Prevent Seeks Removal of Children

This is a report unlike any that CAGE has produced before, and it comes at a crucial time. In today’s global paradigm we have become acquainted with the images and stories of children being removed from their parents in countries that espouse “freedom and democracy”. This has happened under the guise of “immigration control and preventing terrorism”.

We have seen this happening in the United States and, at a lower profile but no less significant extent, in Australia. Such policies have long roots in colonialism and empire.

Now, for the first time, CAGE is offering documentation that the removal of children, and the attempted removal of children, is taking place in the family courts of the United Kingdom. It is being done using an unreliable and highly subjective method of measuring “extremism” and “radicalisation”, themselves subjective terms that have not been adequately defined.

Join IHRC for an author evening, book signing and Q&A with Lauren Booth for her memoir ‘Finding Peace in the Holy Land’.

WHERE: IHRC Bookshop, 202 Preston Road, Wembley, HA9 8PA

WHEN: Thursday, 4 October 2018 from 6.30pm

About the book:
Finding Peace in the Holy Land is a timely memoir told with brisk honesty and sharp humour. Sweeping from the suburbs of North London to the olive groves of Palestine, it explores a life of excess-to-spiritualiy impacted by the struggle of a distant people.

Paddling the celebrity shallows of the 1990’s as ‘Tony Blair’s sister-in-law’, Lauren Booth explored everything city life had on offer. Yet, as a cautious Christian, she was drawn to the Holy Land too.

Given the chance to visit Palestine, instead of finding the faith of her Catholic heritage, she became embroiled in the people’s struggle, accidentally breaking a deadly siege by land and sea, playing handball with Hamas and witnessing daily acts of patience and courage which would change her forever.

Finding Peace in the Holy Land is a witty personal odyssey calling the reader to consider the universal question; ‘what’s this life thing all about?’

About the author:
Lauren Booth is a journalist and broadcaster who has presented series for amongst others: BBC Radio London, British Muslim TV, Press TV and the Islam Channel. She also has an international platform as a public speaker. Her talks and lectures focus on media bias, the illegal Occupation of Palestine and her own conversion to Islam.

The Qur’an describes three groups of people in relation to their response to the Qur’an; believers, unbelievers and hypocrites. The latter group is considered the most dangerous ‘enemies’ to the believers as they profess to be among them but inwardly work against their interests. Muslims are asked to ‘beware’ of the characteristics of the hypocrites so they do not follow these traits as they can result in the downfall and disintegration of the community. In this Seminar, we will identify some of the characteristics of hypocrites mentioned in different parts of the Qur’an and also explore ways we can help rid of hypocrisy in our midst.

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is the recipient of the Qur’an and directly addressed in the sacred text many times, but never called by his name unlike other prophets. In this month of Rabiul Awwal, where the blessed birth of the Holy Prophet (SAW) and other major events of his life (SIrah) took place, we look at some of the beautiful descriptions of the man who is a beautiful role model (Uswah Hasanah) for the believers.
