Muhammad A Portrait of Perfection - 7 Week Course (Guidance Hub) @ Manchester @ Guidance Hub | England | United Kingdom

DESCRIPTION
Seven week course taught by Dr Amin al Astewani, Ustadh Muhammad Ali and Shaykh Waseem Ahmed. Open to all, children over 11 years welcome.

Introduction

Muhammad (peace be upon him): The individual who Allah adorned every beauty; inner and outer, hidden and apparent, subtle and manifest. Some companions said that his face was brighter than the moon, while others found no words to describe him except, “we did not see anything like him; not before him, nor after him.”

This is his outer form and physical appearance which left nations in awe. What about his inner beauty and character? Allah Himself declares in the Quran, ‘And indeed you [Muhammad] are upon an immense character”. [Surah Qalam: 4]

The companions preserved every intricate detail about both these aspects of the Prophet (peace be upon him), from his physical features to his noble character. In this course, we take a journey through several narrations (hadith) known as Shamai’l Muhammadiyya.

Course Aims:

Understanding outer and inner characteristics of the final Messenger of Allah .
Understanding why he (peace be upon him) is the best of creation and increasing in reverence for him (peace be upon him).
Developing a deeper and stronger connection with the Prophet (peace be upon him).
Understanding how to emulate the Prophet (peace be upon him) in our daily lives.

What will I learn?

You will learn about:

The physical description of the Prophet (peace be upon him), including his height, complexion, hair, countenance, physique, walk, and much more.

The items used and worn by the Prophet (peace be upon him), including his garments, rings, scent, utensils, armour, swords and much more.

The food and drink the Prophet (peace be upon him) preferred and his manner of consuming it.

The manner in which the Prophet (peace be upon him) sat, spoke, slept, prayed, fasted and more.

The noble characteristics of the Prophet (peace be upon him), including his modesty, his humility and his interaction with others.

What will I achieve?

By the end of this unit, you should be able to:

Describe the physical appearance of the Prophet (peace be upon him).

Explain the detail in which the all aspects of the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) life have been preserved.

Understand the prophetic diet and its benefits.

Apply the prophetic manners and etiquettes of eating, drinking, reclining, speaking and sleeping to your own life.

Embody some of the noble prophetic character traits.

Develop your knowledge and reverence for the Prophet (peace be upon him).

Reclaiming the Mosque Course (IIDR) @ London Tickets
Jul 7 @ 9:00 am – 6:30 pm
Reclaiming the Mosque Course (IIDR) @ London @ London UK | London | England | United Kingdom

Women are finally reclaiming spaces in every industry and across every society as we speak. But what of the role of women in the mosque? With so many prayer spaces ignoring the needs of women nowadays, IIDR is looking backwards. Backwards, but to a more forward-thinking time. We are looking to the prophetic tradition and Quranic sources to understand what should actually be happening in our mosques. Reclaiming the Mosque is an exploration of how this partitioning of gender came about and where this has brought us to today. So, sign up now and be a part of a fresh, new approach to this pertinent subject.

This July we will be using Prof Jasser Auda’s latest book, Reclaiming the Mosque, to understand the historical lead up to the relationship of Muslim women with the mosque today. And, when you sign up to learn with us in-person, you will receive a FREE copy of the book to take home with you on the day of the course. At this one day event, Prof Auda will draw on his own extensive research into this area to guide you through:

Historical accounts of women in Islam and the role that they played both in and out of the mosque (even in the battlefield)
How to avoid and combat misinterpretations of hadith and Quranic stipulations
The original design and layout of the Prophet’s mosque in Medina
Dress codes, community interaction and behavioural etiquettes in prayer spaces
The emergence of single gender mosques, and much more…
Islam requires us to treat women with dignity in all spaces, private and public, so join IIDR as we learn how to reclaim this position in all, not just some, of our mosques. Register now and study with the learned Prof Jasser Auda in-person at our London venue, or online from wherever you are in the world. Discounts available for early sign ups too, so get involved today!

This course is supported by Maqasid Institute and Claritas Books.

Jul 13 @ 6:45 pm – 9:00 pm
Srebrenica stories of courage (The City Circle) @ London @ St Ethelburga's Centre for Reconcilation and Peace | England | United Kingdom

DESCRIPTION
This July marks the 23rd anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, which took place during the war in Bosnia. To commemorate this anniversary, The City Circle once again invites you to pay your respects to survivors and to remember the victims with an event during Srebrenica Memorial Week.

The theme for this year is Acts of Courage. Acts of courage in times of war help us to understand how communities resist regimes that seek to spread fear and division. They also sow the seeds of possibility for peace and reconciliation. During the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina, ordinary people undertook acts of extraordinary courage. These ordinary heroes of Bosnia were defined by the choices that they made in seemingly impossible circumstances. It is fitting that the word “hero” comes from the Greek “to protect”, as these individuals chose to protect others – their loved ones, their neighbours and their communities.

Today, when too many continue to deny that the Srebrenica genocide happened and glorify the perpetrators, our speakers will retell stories of courage so we can draw inspiration from their bravery, heroism and a determination to resist hatred.

We are delighted that we will be joined by visiting musicians from the National Theatre of Sarajevo who will perform traditional Bosnian Sevdah music after the talks.

Please join us afterwards for traditional Bosnian refreshments.

Speakers
Dr Ilijaz Pilav, genocide survivor

Dr Ilijaz Pilav was a young doctor in Srebrenica when the genocide took place, and he survived the Death March from Srebrenica to Tuzla. He worked in the most appalling conditions, having to carry out amputations on patients with no anaesthetic, pain killers or medical equipment. When Ratko Mladic and his Serb forces entered the enclave of Srebrenica, Dr Ilijaz gave the orders for the hospital to be evacuated, and had to force reluctant UN personnel to take on the patients, as he felt that otherwise they would be killed.

Rešad Trbonja, war survivor and In-country Co-ordinator, Remembering Srebrenica @RTrbonja

Having lived all his life in Sarajevo, Rešad knows only too well the horrors of the conflict and the lasting physical and psychological damage it has wrought on society. He is responsible for running Remembering Srebrenica’s “Lessons from Srebrenica” visits, and promoting the charity’s messages in Bosnia. Before joining Remembering Srebrenica, Rešad worked for the UN and the EU in the field of security, law enforcement, and prosecution. The war abruptly ended his study, but in the years following the end of the conflict, he returned to academia, and has recently finished a Masters in Criminology.

Additional details
The event is free to attend as we believe it’s important to make it accessible to all. If you are able to, we would be grateful if you are able to donate a few pounds per ticket when booking to help cover the venue hire costs. Any additional money raised will be donated to the charity Remembering Srebrenica.

The event will contain discussions around genocide. Although all are welcome, some of the discussion may be unsuitable for young people under the age of 16.

All welcome. Doors open at 18:45 and the programme begins at 19:00. If you have any questions, please contact sameera@thecitycircle.com.

This is the longest Surah in the Qur’an with 286 verses and revealed over the span of 9 years. Yet there is well connected textual coherence between its verses which could be explained through ‘ring composition’. The first half of the Surah is a survey of the Children of Israil and the second half of the Surahs lays down the foundation of the Muslim Ummah with detailed laws on acts of worship, family life and governance of state affairs. It is essentially a summary of the contents of the entire in more detail than in the opening chapter.

Marriage Matchmaking Event (Nisful Imaan Marriage Service) @ London @ Brick Lane Jamme Masjid | England | United Kingdom

This event is to help muslim brothers and sisters to find their future spouse in a halal way.
About this Event
Nisful Imaan Marriage Service introduces Marriage Matchmaking event where muslim brothers and sisters can find their future spouse in an halal way.

How it works – in detail…

– Arrival, registration and profile completion, ID number and Username/Password will be given to each person. (Once you have paid on Eventbrite please contact our Event Team on 07985224655 so that we can send you a link to complete your profile)

– In short our events is structured two parts – Group ice-breakers and then followed by one-to-one meeting with the participants and we have devised an in-house Marriage Event Website to facilitate the whole process.

– A person who is interested in participating in the event will be asked to fill in a profile on our Marriage Event Website, a link will be sent after registration and payment (usually a week before the event) and the profile will contain basic biographical information as well as space to add what you hope to offer a potential spouse and you they are looking for. We will be explaining how the Event Matchmaking system works on the day.

Group ice-breakers

Each individual is assigned a numbered badge to enable clear identification. In order to create an environment that is consistent with Islamic principles, the format of our events is carefully managed to minimise unnecessary ‘free-mixing’ while ensuring that everyone has an opportunity to be introduced. While some Muslim marriage events have chosen to replicate Western styles of ‘speed-dating’ based on one-to-one meetings lasting 2-3 minutes, we have developed an alternative method based on a group rotation that allows for all participants to meet within initial small groups where, with the help of a group facilitator, participants are encouraged to introduce themselves and offer responses to a series of ice-breaker questions with some light-hearted questions. After introductions in small groups, the women remain seated while men are asked to move onto the next group and continue introductions and rotations until all participants have been introduced. People are encouraged to make note of anyone they are interested in speaking to further.

Group ice-breaking sessions are facilitated in circles of around 5 male’s and 5 female’s, which provide an opportunity to meet and view in an Islamic manner, gauge opinions and standpoints in life before making an ‘informed’ decision whether to meet the person later on. Group sessions are chaired by experienced facilitators maintaining the conversations which last around on average 7-10 minutes.

One-to-One meetings

The second part of the event focuses on facilitating one-to-one meetings between interested parties where they are free to exchange contact details if they choose to. Friends or mahrams are strongly encouraged to attend to give moral support in the whole process. We try to arrange a minimum of 5 meetings or more subject to interest from both parties. We can not promise interest from either side and can not take blame for no interest at all. All confirmed meetings, declines, interests, follow ups after the event, and viewing of profiles are managed through our Marriage Event Website

Follow up Services

Most participants tend to meet everyone at the event and exchange details but we also give the opportunity to communicate after the event via our online database service –www.nisfulimaanmarriage.com – Full details of the follow up service is explained on the day of the event.

Need Assistance?

You can contact our Events team Monday – Saturday 11am to 5pm on 020 7247 7719 / 07985 224655 and we will be happy to help you. You may also visit our office at Brick Lane Jamme Masjid, 59 Brick Lane, 2nd Floor London, E1 6QL. Halal but Un-Islamic (IIDR) @ London Tickets
Sep 15 @ 9:00 am – 6:30 pm

The last 300 years of Muslim history has witnessed the gap between law and ethics widen. Over time, the discipline of law has repeatedly lost its connection with the ethical aspect of Islam. The Islamic faith has been reduced to a simplistic code of halal and haram. But could something halal also technically be un-Islamic? It can be and it is. Discover how and why at this unique one day course on Saturday 15th September.

When fiqh is separated from ethics, the phenomenon of the ‘halal but un-Islamic’ materialises. Let Shaykh Sharif MH al-Banna, one of our most popular lecturers and IIDR Founder, guide you through this legal and ethical minefield. Expect to cover the methods behind legal juristic thought and the role of ethics in our everyday lives. You will consider topical subjects from an entirely new view, such as:

Food: Whilst the meat we consume may be halal, is the entire animal’s eco-system?
Finance: what is ‘Islamic’ about Islamic Finance beyond dealing with legal loopholes in order to frame it as Shariah-compliant?
Art and Music: How do we justify the celebrity obsession and pop culture that has crept into the ‘Islamic’ nasheed and music industry?
Hooked? We are too. Sign up now and we’ll see you there.

The Qur’an describes three groups of people in relation to their response to the Qur’an; believers, unbelievers and hypocrites. The latter group is considered the most dangerous ‘enemies’ to the believers as they profess to be among them but inwardly work against their interests. Muslims are asked to ‘beware’ of the characteristics of the hypocrites so they do not follow these traits as they can result in the downfall and disintegration of the community. In this Seminar, we will identify some of the characteristics of hypocrites mentioned in different parts of the Qur’an and also explore ways we can help rid of hypocrisy in our midst.

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is the recipient of the Qur’an and directly addressed in the sacred text many times, but never called by his name unlike other prophets. In this month of Rabiul Awwal, where the blessed birth of the Holy Prophet (SAW) and other major events of his life (SIrah) took place, we look at some of the beautiful descriptions of the man who is a beautiful role model (Uswah Hasanah) for the believers.
