Islamic Event Details This five-day (16 – 21 April 2018) hands-on introductory workshop will focus on the practical use of the polygonal technique as applied to the five historical modular design systems for creating original Islamic geometric patterns.

Teacher: Jay Bonner
Jay Bonner, an internationally renowned specialist of Islamic geometric design and author of Islamic Geometric Patterns: their Historical Development and Traditional Methods of Construction (Springer 2017). Jay Bonner is a graduate of the Royal College of Art and has lectured and taught design seminars in North Africa, Turkey, Europe and North America. He is also a consulting specialist in the field of Islamic architectural ornament and has worked extensively on projects throughout the world, including al-Masjid an-Nabawi (the Prophet’s Mosque) in Medina, and al-Masjid al-Haram (the Grand Mosque) in Mecca. Tuition: The programme cost is £650 (including materials, accommodation, lunch, and dinner for the duration of the programme). A discount of £100 will be offered to those who can arrange their own accommodation.
