This course will introduce students to the beautiful shamsa, or sunburst patterns that are used as the opening and closing pages of Islamic manuscripts. We will learn how to draw and paint the rich variety of floral motifs that comprise the shamsa, and explore traditional painting and gilding techniques from Islamic art.

Who is this course for?
All levels and abilities are welcome.

What do I need to bring to class?
Students will be asked to bring their own brushes. Sizes will be specified closer to the start of the course.

It is helpful, but not required, to bring your own palette with wells so you can take home pigment and continue working on your piece as needed.

What days do I attend?
Monday – Friday
